The Mossos d'Esquadra police force is investigating the discovery of a human foot found by a passerby this weekend at the Gola del Ter area in Torroella de Montgrí.

The discovery occurred when a man walking through the area noticed a blue shoe and a sock among the debris washed up by recent storms. Upon closer inspection, he found skeletal remains inside and immediately alerted emergency services.
Local police and Mossos d'Esquadra officers searched the river mouth for further evidence, but no other remains were found. The foot has been taken to the Legal Medicine Institute of Girona for forensic analysis to determine the identity of the individual.
Authorities are checking missing person reports, suspecting that the remains may have been carried downstream by the Ter river following heavy rainfall in late February.
