The venue, officially opened on July 14, 2013, was conceived as a versatile cultural hub capable of hosting a wide array of events, including concerts, theater performances, performing arts, conferences, and fairs. Its launch represented a significant upgrade to the town's cultural offerings.
While the space had seen prior use for fairs, the summer inauguration specifically pertained to the Auditorium Theater following substantial renovations. These works adapted the building for stage and musical performances, considerably enhancing the acoustic and technical conditions that were previously inadequate for quality concerts or theatrical productions.
The total investment for the Espai Ter Master Plan amounted to 563,000 euros, a figure made possible through the collaboration of the Torroella de Montgrí Town Council, the Girona Provincial Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya, and Joventuts Musicals de Torroella de Montgrí.
The inaugural day was designed as a public celebration, featuring open house sessions, performances by local entities, and guided tours. The aim was for the new auditorium theater to serve as an essential resource for both municipal cultural programming and local associations.
The arrival of the Auditori Teatre Espai Ter further boosted the cultural scene in Torroella de Montgrí, which already boasted the renowned Festival de Torroella. The new venue provided enhanced technical capabilities for hosting concerts, stage shows, and other formats, complementing the existing offerings.
The Festival de Torroella itself played a prominent role in the venue's musical debut. The Acadèmia 1750, conducted by Enrico Onofri and featuring vocalists Núria Rial and Xavier Sabata, presented a concert of opera arias and duets, marking the auditorium's sonic premiere.
The versatile purpose of the Espai Ter was envisioned from the outset to extend beyond music and performing arts. Its capacity to host conferences, fairs, and seminars allowed for maximized building utilization throughout the year, thereby addressing various cultural, economic, and social needs of the municipality.
Since its inauguration in 2013, the Auditori Teatre Espai Ter has solidified its position as a key component of Torroella de Montgrí's cultural infrastructure, consolidating concerts, theater, performing arts, conferences, and fairs within a single, comprehensive space.
