The coastline of l'Estartit is currently covered in domestic waste and organic remains. Local officials stated that the accumulation in areas like Gola nord is even higher than during Storm Harry, requiring immediate intervention to restore environmental quality.
The municipality is calling for higher-level government support, arguing that as the river's mouth, they should not bear the full financial burden of cleaning waste generated throughout the entire Ter basin. The goal is to have the beaches ready for the Easter tourist season.
Cleanup crews are working alongside the Montgrí, Medes Islands, and Baix Ter Natural Park to ensure that the use of heavy machinery does not damage the high ecological value of the coastal dunes and protected areas.
