The global figure of 80.3 million euros in indemnities was distributed among more than 70,000 insured plots that declared claims. Of this total, 48.6 million were allocated to cover damages caused by hailstorms, which started unusually early, from April, and extended into the autumn. The most destructive episode was recorded on April 19 in Ponent (Lleida), with losses exceeding 20 million euros, severely affecting sweet fruit crops during growth.
By production type, sweet fruit (peach, nectarine, pear, and apple) was the most affected, accumulating 40 million euros in payments and more than 11,000 hectares damaged. Herbaceous crops, including cereal, rice, and rapeseed, totaled 10.1 million in indemnities, with 50,000 hectares declared. Additionally, 27.5 million euros were allocated to livestock insurance and 2.7 million to other lines such as vineyards, olive groves, or citrus fruits.
These figures confirm the significant effects of meteorological phenomena.
The territorial distribution shows a clear concentration in the province of Lleida, which received 60.6 million euros. This is followed by Barcelona with 7.9 million, Girona with 6 million, and Tarragona with 5.6 million euros. This total amount for 2025 is the second highest in the history of the agricultural insurance system in Catalonia, only surpassed by the losses caused by the exceptional drought of 2023. Over the last five years (2021-2025), total indemnities have exceeded 480 million euros.
