The town of Palafrugell becomes the jazz hub with the 32nd Costa Brava Jazz Festival. Over the weekend, from Friday, October 9th to Sunday, October 11th, the municipality will host a diverse lineup of international and Catalan artists, with performances both outdoors and in indoor venues.
American singer Gisele Jackson, accompanied by The Shu Shu’s, headlines the international lineup. Jackson will perform on Sunday at the TeMePé, one of the festival's main stages. Her career includes sharing the stage with legends like Ray Charles and James Brown, and her hit song Love Commandments reached number 3 on the Billboard Dance chart. The closing concert will be priced at 20 euros.
Another highlight will be the concert by The Last Livin’ Souls on Saturday, October 10th, at the TeMePé. The band will present their debut album, I Believe, in a performance blending blues, soul, and rock. The group, led by Joan Rubau, won the 9th National Blues Band Contest in 2023. Admission will be 10 euros.
Free outdoor music will be featured at plaça Nova, the Teatre Municipal, Can Genís, and l’Espai Cultural La Bòbila. On Friday, October 9th, l’Espai Cultural La Bòbila will host the free concert by Lluís Figueras & The Demons, part of the XIV Xavier Miserachs Photography Biennial.
On Saturday, October 10th, plaça Nova will host the concert by the Energia Big Band with Ricard Gili, founder of La Locomotora Negra. In the afternoon, the same square will feature a social dance session with swing music organized by the Lindy Hop Empordà and Windy Hoppers associations.
In the courtyard of Can Genís, the festival will spotlight female voices with free performances by Jazz-Tic & Saez (featuring Anna Sáez) at 6 PM, and the trio Àvalon (with Carla Motis, Marta Costa, and Laura Carreras) at 7 PM.
On Sunday, October 11th, LaDinamo will present the itinerant show Music on Cycles at plaça Nova, a funk and groove performance combining live music and bicycles.
The festival also includes related cultural activities. On Thursday, October 8th, the Library will host the presentation of the book Miles Davis. Sketches of Catalonia, by Pere Pons Macias. Additionally, the film Born to Be Blue, about Chet Baker, will be screened at the TeMePé.
The Palafrugell Library is hosting an exhibition of materials on jazz until October 13th. On Saturday, October 10th, the Sketxers de la Biblioteca collective will organize a drawing outing to capture festival spaces.
Tickets for paid concerts can be purchased at cultura.palafrugell.cat and at the TeMePé box office. Special prices are available for young people, seniors, the unemployed, and large or single-parent families.
