Residents of the Barri de l’Energia neighborhood in Palafrugell filed over 500 objections in December to halt the construction of 86 housing units on a municipal plot.

The project, part of the Urban Improvement Plan, plans to erect several apartment blocks in an area currently home to just over 500 people. Residents estimate that the new construction could lead to the arrival of up to 350 new inhabitants on a single block, which they denounce as overcrowding that would alter the neighborhood's character.
The community warns about the negative architectural impact that the height and volume of the blocks could generate, especially due to their proximity to the Escola de Música (Music School), a building listed as a Local Cultural Asset of Interest (BCIL). Some residents suggest these changes could also provoke social stress and increase neighborhood tension.
In addition to the visual and social impact, neighbors complain that the project could eliminate essential parking spaces used by the weekly market and local businesses, and they fear an increase in road traffic and a loss of cadastral value for existing properties.
The neighbors demand the immediate withdrawal of the project and the opening of a dialogue process, proposing to dedicate the plot to green areas or community spaces instead. The Palafrugell City Council, while acknowledging the urgent need for housing, has committed to studying all objections filed and maintaining open channels for communication with the residents.
