The Urban Guard of Cornellà is celebrating its centenary this year, culminating in October with a series of activities highlighting proximity and community safety, including plans for a new headquarters.

The city of Cornellà de Llobregat is commemorating the centenary of its Urban Guard, an event that will span the entire year and reach its peak next October. This celebration serves as an opportunity to inform citizens about the services provided by the police force and to honor the individuals who have been part of this institution throughout its history.
Cornellà's security model has evolved from simple surveillance to a city project integrating urban planning, technology, and neighborhood life. Security and coexistence policies have seen their budget strengthened in recent years, with an increase of nearly 20%, reaching 1,448,488 euros for 2026. These resources have enabled an increase in staff to 120 officers and have driven technological investments.
The Urban Guard, operational 24 hours a day, focuses its work on coexistence and prevention. The proximity unit and the unit dedicated to resolving neighborhood conflicts, including illegal occupations, exemplify this approach. Between June 2025 and May 2026, the Coexistence Unit intervened in 146 instances, preventing 54 attempted housing occupations. The Night Observation Service ('serenos') also supports areas like La Gavarra and Sant Ildefons, handling over 1,000 situations annually.
Police presence is evident during events with large public gatherings, such as the recent Corpus Christi celebration, featuring a Mobile Citizen Attention Office in Plaça de Catalunya. Protective duties are also carried out at school entrances and exits (2,245 interventions in one year) and at street markets. Additionally, school transport controls (nearly 300 annually), establishment inspections, and noise level checks are conducted.
The Cornellà Urban Guard will soon relocate to the former Caldereria warehouse in the El Pedró neighborhood. This new 3,500 m2 facility will feature modern technological infrastructure to optimize services. The urban development project includes the construction of a functional building organized around a central courtyard, ensuring natural light and improving the force's facilities.
