Firefighters received almost simultaneous alerts from the Municipal Police of Gavà and from the trapped woman herself at 11:15 AM. Seven units were deployed, including divers from the GRAE Subaquàtic, given the maximum priority of the service, as the water was covering the car up to the windshields and the flow was increasing.
The crews from the Gavà station were the first to arrive at the scene, a stream commonly used as a passage to orchards and houses in the area. The driver had entered and become trapped by the sudden flood. Police officers and members of the local Forest Defense Association were already present.
The teams secured the car with ropes and extended a hook ladder between the vehicle and a bank wall. They managed to evacuate the baby first, followed by the woman, who was equipped with a wetsuit to protect her from the cold water. Upon access, the water inside the car had reached seat level.
The System of Medical Emergencies has transferred the mother and child to a hospital in Sant Boi de Llobregat, both in mild condition.
