Multinational Akzo Nobel has filed a collective redundancy procedure to lay off 120 workers at the Titanlux plant in El Prat de Llobregat during January.

The adjustment proposed by the Dutch company affects 60% of the 197 workers at the Baix Llobregat factory. According to union sources, the measure focuses exclusively on the production area, which would leave the facility practically without manufacturing activity. This plant was acquired by Akzo Nobel in late 2020, when it bought the historic Industrias Titán from the Folch-Rusiñol family.

"We do not accept that a multinational that received direct aid from the Government and maintains millionaire profits ends up firing without cause."

co.bas · Majority union
The co.bas union claims the layoffs lack economic justification, as the plant has recorded record production in recent months, including night shifts and overtime. Workers' representatives suspect the multinational's real intention is to relocate production to Eastern Europe and suppress union activity at the El Prat facility.
In recent years, Akzo Nobel has received 2.1 million euros in subsidies from the Generalitat de Catalunya. Despite investing 11 million euros in modernizing machinery for the Titanlux brand in 2025, the future of synthetic enamel production in Catalonia now remains in a state of extreme uncertainty.
