The judicial decision marks a turning point in the investigation, which until now had been kept strictly confidential. The magistrate has revealed relevant details from the Mossos d'Esquadra that indicate Jonathan Andic's responsibility in the events, for which he could face sentences of ten to fifteen years in prison.
Lawyer Miguel Capuz, a member of the Illustrious College of Lawyers of Barcelona, has indicated that the defense, led by the renowned lawyer Cristóbal Martell, will now have full access to the proceedings. This will allow the defense to request further inquiries, such as clarifications on police reports and expert evidence, as well as propose defense witness testimony to try to counter the evidence.
The Public Prosecutor's Office will have to prove the intent and motive for the alleged homicide. The imposition of bail on Andic Jr. aims to ensure his presence should the case proceed to a trial, which by law would involve a jury. Although many steps remain, the timeline could be shortened if the case is processed under jury law.
Lawyer Miguel Capuz also criticized the image of Jonathan Andic being handcuffed at the entrance of the Martorell court, considering it a violation of the directive against public shaming.
At the time of his death, Isak Andic was the non-executive chairman of Mango, with an estimated net worth of 4.5 billion euros. The company, under the leadership of Toni Ruiz, a trusted associate of the founder and chairman, has sought to maintain its course and distance itself from the case. Jonathan Andic and his sisters own 95% of the company, although he is not involved in its executive management.
