The director of the Catalan Traffic Service, Ramon Lamiel, announced that the 10-kilometer closure of the AP-7, caused by the collapse of a retaining wall that resulted in the death of a trainee driver in Gelida, will be prolonged. This Saturday, personnel from Traffic and the Ministry of Transport will visit the area to analyze the condition of the lanes and determine possible solutions.
The slope wall, which protects the Rodalies R4 line, likely gave way due to the accumulation of water from recent rains. Initially, only the right lane was closed, but it was later decided to restrict 10 kilometers of the highway between Martorell and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia southbound to ensure safety and facilitate the removal of the damaged train.
“"There is no train? But yesterday they said yes"
The suspension of the Rodalies service and the AP-7 closure have forced drivers to seek alternatives. The Garraf highway, the C-32, has lifted tolls and registered an 85% increase in traffic. Despite this, during the morning rush hour, entry into the metropolitan area registered 6.5% fewer vehicles than last year, a fact that Lamiel viewed positively.
The resumption of the Rodalies service, announced for Thursday at 6 a.m., failed. Many users found stations empty, such as Martorell Central, and had to resort to FGC or alternative buses, which also suffered delays due to congestion on the A-2, where up to eighteen kilometers of queues accumulated between Cornellà de Llobregat and Martorell.
