AP-7 reopens one southbound lane in Martorell starting Saturday at 2 PM

The measure comes after Transport Ministry technicians guaranteed the safety of the leftmost lane, which was preserved from the landslide.

The Catalan Traffic Service will open one lane of the AP-7 southbound near Martorell this Saturday, January 24, at 2 PM, following the conclusion of the weekend departure operation.

The opening of the leftmost lane of the AP-7 southbound in Martorell will take effect on Saturday at 2 PM, as confirmed by the Ministry of Transport at the request of the Generalitat. Technicians determined that this lane is "perfectly safe" since the collapse of the embankment that caused the fatal railway accident occurred on the exterior part of the highway.

"The left lane is especially safe after the explanations they have given us and seeing all the images."

Ramon Lamiel · Director General of the Catalan Traffic Service
The other two right lanes will remain closed, and their reopening is a matter of "days". The Director General of the Catalan Traffic Service, Ramon Lamiel, urged drivers to continue using alternative routes (such as the C-32, where traffic has doubled, the N-340, and the A-2) to avoid a "bottleneck effect" after the peak weekend departure traffic.
This partial reopening at kilometer 177 of the highway will also allow the return of dangerous goods transport to the AP-7. Lamiel stressed that this route offers better road safety performance for these types of trucks, which must circulate away from tunnels and population centers.
