These meetings, scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 at 6:30 PM and Saturday, April 11 at 12:00 PM, are aimed at citizens wishing to participate in this solidarity initiative. The main objective is to offer Sahrawi children a stay in Catalonia during July and August, providing them with a safe environment, medical care, and adequate nutrition.
The 'Vacations in Peace' program, managed in the city by the Associació Castelldefels-Sàhara since 2012, allows minors to enjoy recreational activities and a summer camp with other children from Castelldefels in July, while in August they live fully with their host families. This initiative, supported by the Polisario Front Delegation in Catalonia and various entities, seeks to improve the living conditions of children from refugee camps.
Conditions in the Sahrawi camps are extremely harsh, with summer temperatures often exceeding 50 degrees Celsius and severe shortages of food, medicine, and basic necessities. Children are among the most vulnerable groups facing these adversities, and the 'Vacations in Peace' program represents a crucial opportunity for their development and well-being.
Castelldefels has participated in this project since 1996, initially through the Plataforma Castelldefels con el Sáhara. The Associació Castelldefels-Sàhara, in addition to organizing summer stays, works to raise awareness about the situation of the Sahrawi people, who have faced difficulties for nearly five decades.
