Around 100 tractors and 140 agricultural vehicles gathered in front of the Ministry of Agriculture on Gran Via. Farmers from regions including Baix Llobregat, Girona, and Lleida expressed their frustration with low market prices, increasing bureaucracy, and the impact of wildlife pests on their crops.
“"Our death will be your hunger."
Local farmers from Molins de Rei highlighted the specific challenges faced in the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park. They argue that environmental protection zones, such as the ZEPA, have made traditional farming nearly impossible, calling for immediate policy changes from the new Minister, Òscar Ordeig.
The protest also targeted the Mercosur trade deal between the EU and South American countries. Farmers fear that removing tariffs will allow the entry of products that do not meet European sanitary standards, potentially destroying the local family-owned farming model.
