The Department of Agriculture has officially launched the annual ban on forest fires in Catalonia, effective from March 15 until October 15, to protect natural areas during the high-risk season.

The regulation prohibits lighting fires in all forest lands and within a 500-meter radius of these areas. This includes burning agricultural waste, pruning remains, and recreational bonfires. Although recent rainfall has lowered the immediate risk compared to previous years, authorities maintain strict control over any activity involving flames or sparks.
The use of pyrotechnics and machinery that generates sparks is also restricted and requires special permits. To streamline this process, the 9PERFOC digital platform has been introduced this year, allowing citizens to manage authorizations and receive alerts regarding activity suspensions due to weather conditions.
Citizens are reminded to avoid littering in forests and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately by calling the 112 emergency number.
