According to the Baix Llobregat Comarcal Observatory, there are currently 47,874 job seekers in the region. This represents a 0.3% monthly increase, largely attributed to the end of seasonal Christmas contracts.
The most significant spikes in unemployment were seen in the automotive industry (+143%), logistics (+131%), and information technology (+71%). Education and retail also faced adjustments as the market enters a rebalancing phase.
Despite the monthly rise, the structural outlook remains positive, with unemployment down nearly 20% since 2019. Towns like Sant Boi de Llobregat and Esplugues de Llobregat have seen the most significant long-term improvements.
Regarding labor regulations, three ERE files affected 139 workers in January. These measures involved reduced hours or temporary suspensions rather than permanent layoffs, showing more resilience than the broader Barcelona metropolitan area.
