The Bombers de la Generalitat have been working since shortly before 2 PM on a forest fire in the municipality of Gavà, in the Baix Llobregat region. The alert was received after several witnesses reported seeing smoke visible from the C-32 highway, perceptible from various points in the metropolitan area of Barcelona.
According to initial reports, the fire started in a vehicle, and the flames quickly spread to the surrounding vegetation. The emergency services have deployed 22 units, including seven aerial resources, two of which are water bombers already engaged in another fire in Sentmenat. The fire grew rapidly, and firefighters are prioritizing monitoring secondary outbreaks and the left flank that could advance towards the Galliners mountain range. The affected perimeter is approximately five hectares.
Due to the fire's proximity to the urban area, Protecció Civil activated the ES-ALERT warning on mobile phones for residents in the Can Tries and Bruguers developments in Gavà, as well as in Sant Climent de Llobregat and the area of Puig de Miramar in Viladecans. These measures affect around 6,000 people, who have been instructed to close doors and windows.
A local resident, Francesc Tenor, explained that he could still see flames from his home after 3 PM, although they disappeared minutes later. He admitted feeling some fear but remains hopeful that the fire will be extinguished soon.
The firefighters have confirmed that the vehicle fire is now stabilized, and the primary concern is the forest fire. The Local Police of Gavà have also been deployed to the area, and the Gavà City Council urges the public to avoid approaching the site and to follow the instructions of the emergency services.
