Catalonia is facing a second heatwave with record temperatures and a high risk of forest fires. The Alfa Plan places 214 municipalities at level 4, the extreme risk level, due to high temperatures and forest management issues.
This Friday, the firefighters are working on several simultaneous fires. New blazes have broken out in Gavà (in Baix Llobregat), Aiguamúrcia (in Alt Camp), and Pont de Cabrianes (near Navarcles, in Bages).
The Department of the Interior has issued recommendations for the public in case fire approaches inhabited areas. The priority is to follow the authorities' instructions and call 112.
If the fire approaches, it is recommended to shelter indoors, close doors and windows, and seal any openings for outside air. If an evacuation is ordered, turn off electricity and gas, take essential items (documents, money, medication), and go where security services direct.
It is also advised to fill bathtubs and sinks with water, wet doors and windows, and place wet towels under doors. In case of heavy smoke, it is recommended to breathe close to the ground with lights on.
