The Martorell City Council approved a significant modification to the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) this March 2026 to encourage the regeneration of the La Vila historic center.

The decision, supported by all political parties, updates regulations from 1991 that had left over 60% of the neighborhood's buildings in a legal limbo. These restrictions prevented the renovation of houses with narrow facades and forced unnecessary demolitions to align streets.

"The previous PGOU allowed proper development of new neighborhoods but left much of La Vila out of regulation."

Albert Fernández · City Councilor for Urban Agenda
The reform follows a two-year technical study of every property in the area. By adjusting height and volume parameters, the council aims to attract new housing projects and preserve architectural heritage. The plan now awaits final approval from the Generalitat de Catalunya.
