The Catalan Government detected two new cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Molins de Rei this Friday, leading to an expansion of the high-risk safety zone.

These cases mark the first time the virus has been found outside the initial Bellaterra radius. Minister Òscar Ordeig stated that, despite the new findings, no farms have been affected by the outbreak so far.

"There are no farms affected within the new containment radii defined by the department."

The towns of Molins de Rei and El Papiol are now under restrictions regarding access to natural spaces. New fencing will be installed along the N-2 and B-23 highways to control wild boar movement.
Official reports rule out a laboratory leak at IRTA, pointing instead to contaminated food waste as the most likely source of the infection.
