The Generalitat de Catalunya has confirmed the first case of African Swine Fever in Sant Just Desvern, marking a significant spread of the virus into previously low-risk areas near Barcelona.

Since November, veterinary services have reported 37 outbreaks and 216 positive cases among wild boars. The virus, originally centered around Cerdanyola del Vallès, has now reached eight municipalities, including Sant Cugat, Terrassa, and Molins de Rei.
The Ministry of Agriculture is leading efforts to reduce wild boar populations using traps and specialized hunting teams. To date, over 1,700 animals have been tested, with authorities focusing on passive surveillance and the recovery of carcasses in natural environments.
Protective measures include the installation of specialized fencing at 222 control points. These barriers are designed to restrict animal movement through key corridors while still allowing vehicles and pedestrians to pass through the affected forest areas.
