The Government of Catalonia expanded the African Swine Fever high-risk zone to the municipalities of Molins de Rei and El Papiol this Friday, February 13, 2026.

The outbreak, which started in Cerdanyola del Vallès last November, has taken a worrying step. The detection of two infected wild boars in Molins de Rei forced the Ministry of Agriculture to extend containment measures beyond the Collserola mountain range.

"The detection of positive wild boars outside the initial zone indicates that the virus remains active and we cannot lower our guard."

Òscar Ordeig · Minister of Agriculture
Being in the high-risk zone means immediate restrictions on access to natural areas, including forests and rural paths. Hunting and forestry work are prohibited to prevent animal movement. Fencing will be reinforced along the N-2 and B-23 highways.
So far, 155 infected wild boars have been recorded. While not a threat to human health, the disease is highly contagious among pigs. Citizens are urged to call 112 if they find any dead animals.
