The crisis of the “social infantry” sustaining the pillars of the Welfare State is worsening in the region, with professionals such as doctors from El Prat and Sant Boi, teachers from Institut Rubió i Ors, and sanitary technicians expressing deep dissatisfaction. This discontent has led to strikes and protests over the last five years.
“"It's as if they told you they won't serve you the steak you want, and that a few carrots on the plate will be enough. It's a joke, really."
One key point of friction is the lack of real budget to implement new management proposals. For instance, the incorporation of nutritionists in clinics does not involve direct patient care, but only email support for doctors, which increases the workload. Furthermore, many professionals with 20 or 25 years of experience report earning less than 2,000 euros per month.
“"When you criticize something related to management, they respond with 'you lack vocation'."
This situation has created a highly pressurized work environment, where the usual response from superiors to complaints is the appeal to “vocation,” a mechanism that workers perceive as emotional blackmail used to justify professional and salary stagnation, particularly in centers like Cornellà.
