AP-7 in Martorell cut off southbound for days due to collapse risk

The traffic restriction starts at 3:30 PM this Wednesday and is directly linked to the recent fatal railway accident in Gelida.

The director of the Catalan Traffic Service, Ramon Lamiel, announced the closure of the AP-7 southbound in Martorell starting at 3:30 PM on Wednesday due to a risk of road collapse.

The measure, expected to last several days, was requested by the road owner, the Ministry of Transport, as a “road safety intervention.” Although initially proposed to cut the highway in both directions, the restriction was limited to the southbound lanes to minimize mobility disruption.

"It is a road safety intervention. It has been requested by the road owner because there was some risk of sinking."

This disruption occurs following the Rodalies train accident in Gelida, which resulted in one fatality (a trainee driver). The train is expected to be extracted overnight, and a second expert assessment will be carried out on Thursday to determine the precise duration of the AP-7 closure.
