Experts in philosophy, psychology, and spirituality have warned of the risks of a society exclusively focused on efficiency and have called for finding a balance that respects human rhythms in care and accompaniment.

The 21st Conference of the Spiritual and Religious Care Service (SAER) at Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu, held in Sant Boi de Llobregat under the theme ‘To the rhythm of life. The pace of interiority in an accelerated world’, has highlighted the need to find a balance between the demands of current systems and the time required for human processes of care, accompaniment, and personal growth.
The meeting noted that while organizations tend to prioritize speed, optimization, and efficiency, people continue to need time, presence, listening, and respect for their own life rhythms. The conference addressed the importance of preserving spaces for listening that allow for the development of autonomy, reflection, and meaningful human relationships.
Marta Palet, a SAER user, shared her personal experience, emphasizing how the personal growth sessions she received were a "lifesaver" during a critical time after her mother's death.
The concept of 'euficiency' is advocated to balance effectiveness with values such as affection, connection, beauty, and kindness. Technology, while a key element in today's society, requires critical examination to avoid subjecting us to constant acceleration and to preserve human values.
Experts such as Ignasi Boada, Doctor of Philosophy, and Jaume Cardona, a therapist, have stressed the importance of building care models that place the person at the center, preventing them from becoming mere diagnoses. They call for fostering therapeutic relationships based on presence, listening, and accompaniment, and for institutions to facilitate environments that promote this humanistic perspective.
