The Iberian Citadel of Calafell will reopen its doors on the weekend of January 31 and February 1 with free admission, following the completion of repair work on the roofs damaged by heavy rainfall.

The intense rains from the DANA storm in late October 2024 caused serious damage to the straw and mud roofs of the reconstructed houses, even affecting the wooden beams. These elements, which reproduce the Iberian lifestyle, require periodic maintenance.
The Calafell City Council decided to close the site to ensure visitor safety until a definitive solution was reached. The reconstruction has been carried out following the experimental archaeology techniques applied at the site for more than three decades.

"It has been a delicate work, since, like all those at the site, it has been done artisanally and experimentally."

The repair project took longer than initially expected due to the scale of the damage. This circumstance required the work to be contracted through a public tender, an administrative process that extended the execution deadlines.
