The President of the Tarragona Provincial Council, Noemí Llauradó, addressed yesterday the request by the mayor of Cunit, Jaume Casañas, to vote on whether the municipality should change province, expressing support for the consultation.

The debate over the future of Cunit continues after its mayor, Jaume Casañas, expressed the intention to leave the province of Tarragona and join Barcelona. The President defended the work done in Baix Penedès, ensuring that resources are invested to improve the quality of life of its citizens.

"We respect the mayor's proposals. However, we believe that we work and invest resources in Baix Penedès to try to improve the quality of life of its citizens."

Llauradó cited the working group established to address mobility issues as an example of collaboration, doubting that the Barcelona Provincial Council would offer a similar mechanism. She also understood the feeling of lack of investment but attributed the responsibility to larger public administrations, such as the Generalitat and the State, rather than the Tarragona supramunicipal body.
The President compared the budgets, noting that Tarragona's budget is around 200 million euros, while Barcelona's accounts amount to one billion euros. Despite the difference, she emphasized that their role is to act as a “lobby” for the territory.
Finally, regarding the proposed consultation, the President was unequivocally in favor of the nearly 16,000 inhabitants of Cunit deciding their future through a referendum, reiterating her stance of “always in favor of voting.”
