The main urban transformation focuses on the renaturalization of the Riera, whose first phase is in final execution. This action aims to convert the area into a green, natural zone, reducing the risk of flooding. Furthermore, the Passera dels Nens del Vendrell footbridge will be eliminated and replaced by a new bridge in the Bisbal stream, improving communication and preventing overflows.
“"2026 will be the year of project execution and the fulfillment of the commitments acquired for this mandate."
The largest project is the expansion of the Hospital Comarcal del Vendrell, managed by the Department of Health and the Xarxa Santa Tecla. The mayor announced that the first stone for this expansion, necessary due to the demographic growth in Baix Penedès, will be laid in a few weeks. Simultaneously, the new selective waste collection model will be deployed in 2026, aiming to increase the selective collection rate to over 55%.
Regarding urban planning, the drafting of the new Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM), replacing the 2000 plan, is expected to be ready this year, seeking a more compact and green municipality. The reform of the urban center of Coma-ruga will also be completed, including the Parc de la Música and the renaturalization of the stream. Additionally, the Generalitat will promote social rental housing on five plots ceded by the council.
In terms of security, Martínez highlighted that in 2025 the municipality registered the largest drop in crime in Spain. To reinforce the model, the Local Police staff will be expanded, and 45 reader cameras will be installed to complete the surveillance network. Finally, 2026 will be a year of events, commemorating 150 years since the birth of Pau Casals and hosting the Capital de la Sardana and the European Sports Capital titles.
