The Calafell municipal government has promoted a modification of the Municipal Urban Planning Plan (POUM) to acquire new spaces for amenities, green areas, and parking in Segur de Calafell, responding to demographic growth.

This initiative seeks to correct decades of uncontrolled urban development that has left the core of Segur with a significant lack of services. The measure follows the suspension of licenses in plots where major urban development is expected, aiming to prevent residential saturation without the necessary infrastructure.
The approved modifications will allow for the acquisition of a total of 8,167 m² of land. These new spaces will be distributed among amenities, green areas, and parking, primarily concentrated in the central part of Segur and in some areas located between the railway line and the beach.
Specifically, 2,011 m² will be allocated for amenities across three properties, 3,810 m² for green areas across five plots, and 2,346 m² for parking across four properties. A spokesperson for the local government noted that these are lands that had not been developed for years and can now be put to public use.
The vote in the municipal plenary session resulted in 13 votes in favor (from the PSC, PP, and one unattached councilor), 4 against (from ERC and VOX), and three abstentions (from UAM and the CUP).
