The intersection of the C-31 at Coll de Calafell, a site of numerous accidents since its construction, will be replaced by a roundabout. This initiative, long requested by the Calafell City Council, aims to improve road safety and traffic flow.
The Territori department of the Generalitat has greenlit the project, which has a budget of 1.7 million euros. The primary objective is to ensure safety in an area identified as a high-accident zone, despite the Generalitat previously arguing that visibility was adequate.
Regular road users had repeatedly pointed out the danger of this junction, which provides access to the old town and allows entry onto the main road. Despite previous lighting improvements, accidents continued to occur at all hours.
“"We have demanded this action for years, and Carreteres told us it wasn't viable due to the road's gradient. Now it has been proven viable, and the project is already drafted."
The Mayor of Calafell, Ramon Ferré, highlighted it as a "much-anticipated" project and expressed confidence that the preparation of preliminary deeds for the expropriated properties, scheduled for September 16th, will be the first step towards its execution.
This intervention offers a new prospect for drivers who use this stretch daily, reducing the risks posed by speeding and hasty merging maneuvers.
