The Administrative Court number 2 of Tarragona has ruled against El Vendrell City Council for its inaction regarding the critical situation of the Sant Magí cat colony.

Following a legal challenge by the animal rights group FAADA, the court has declared the municipality's lack of intervention as contrary to law. The ruling forces the council to open an inquiry to identify those responsible for the neglect and initiate potential disciplinary proceedings.
The animal rights organization reported a significant drop in the cat population and signs of poisoning. The judge emphasized that under Catalan and Spanish animal welfare laws, managing feline colonies is a mandatory municipal responsibility that cannot be ignored.

"We will do what the judge says; the resolution explains why it took so long or if it could have been done better."

Kenneth Martínez · Mayor of El Vendrell
Mayor Kenneth Martínez stated this Thursday that the city will comply with the sentence and open an informative file, despite claiming the issue has already been resolved.
