Cunit demands free access to C-32 side toll due to AP-7 closure traffic diversion

The City Council argues that maintaining the toll at the Cunit-Cubelles exit creates an unfair comparative grievance and exacerbates local traffic congestion.

The Cunit City Council, led by Mayor Jaume Casañas, criticized on February 3, 2026, the decision to keep the southbound C-32 lateral toll operational, despite the main section being free due to the AP-7 incident near Gelida.

The temporary closure of the AP-7 highway near Gelida has turned the C-32 into a primary alternative route for vehicles traveling south from Barcelona. Consequently, the C-32 is currently free from Barcelona to El Vendrell as an exceptional measure to absorb the diverted traffic.
However, the lateral exit between Cunit and Cubelles remains tolled, generating complaints from drivers and Cunit residents. The City Council points out that a vehicle traveling from the north does not pay if it continues to Sitges or El Vendrell, but is charged if it uses the lateral exit to enter Cunit.

"The free access measure should be homogeneous throughout the affected route to avoid bottlenecks and unnecessary diversions onto the secondary road network."

Regular users denounce that this situation creates a comparative grievance, forcing them to pay the toll at a point with high traffic density and where many trips are daily and local. The City Council demands that the Cunit-Cubelles barrier be lifted while AP-7 restrictions persist, arguing that partial application of free access is unjust and may worsen local mobility issues.
