Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) in Baix Penedès has requested that the annual canon income paid by the company Applus for the use of the Idiada research center lands be entirely allocated back to the county.

The Generalitat awarded the sale of 80% of Idiada shares to Applus for 25 years in 2024. This agreement includes the concession of public domain land and facilities located between Albinyana, Banyeres, la Bisbal, and Santa Oliva, generating an annual canon of 4 million euros plus a variable 2% of the company's EBITDA.

The distribution of public investment has failed to overcome the historical deficits in services, equipment, and infrastructure in the county, despite strong demographic growth.

ERC's petition, which was also raised by the mayor of Cunit, Jaume Casañas, to the Minister of Economy, Alícia Romero, seeks a direct and dedicated return of these revenues to Baix Penedès, as the territory bears the impact of the activity.
The party proposes creating a dedicated investment fund with the entirety of the canon to address actions in mobility, road safety, health and social health facilities, education, water and sanitation services, housing, and economic promotion of industrial estates.
ERC will present the proposal to all municipalities and the Baix Penedès County Council for approval before submitting it as an initiative to the Parliament of Catalunya, aiming to equip the county with the necessary services to cope with the continuous population increase.
