The Museu Deu in El Vendrell opens today, Thursday, January 22, 2026, the temporary exhibition Adge, el camp dels catalans (1939-1942), documenting the internment of Republican exiles.

The inauguration ceremony for the exhibition, produced by the Memorial Democràtic, an institution of the Generalitat de Catalunya, takes place at 6:00 PM. The initiative to display it in El Vendrell comes from the Amical de Mauthausen and other camps and of all victims of Nazism in Spain, which gathers former Republican deportees and their families.
The Agde concentration camp was established by the French government in 1939 to house refugees from the Spanish Civil War. Most of the internees were of Catalan origin, which is why it was known as the “camp dels catalans” (the camp of the Catalans).

The exhibition aims to promote knowledge about the exile, especially the internment of Republican exiles in refugee camps in the south of France.

The exhibition is curated by Laia Arañó, a Doctor in Modern and Contemporary History from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Arañó is also the author of the book El camp dels catalans. Agde en el sistema de concentracionari francès (1939-1940), which will be presented at the museum on February 25, followed by a guided tour. The exhibition will be open until March 29, 2026.
