The state of the El Vendrell Local Police facilities has raised concerns among officers, who have expressed their discomfort with the precarious conditions of the premises. Recently, a rap-style song circulated via WhatsApp, highlighting the deficiencies experienced by police personnel.
The officers' complaints, which police unions have been warning about for years, include the presence of dampness, cracked ceilings, and unsanitary issues, such as scabies outbreaks in the changing rooms. Additionally, leaks and structural deficiencies have been identified, with props supporting an overhang on the exterior of the building.
The Citizen Security councilor, Christian Soriano, has acknowledged the precariousness of the facilities but explained that the definitive solution involves relocating to new premises. This change, however, will not be immediate and is expected to take time.
“"The building has a capacity problem. Back then there were 40 officers, and now there are a hundred."
The current police facilities were set up in 1997 in what was originally intended to be a bus station during the 1980s. This structure, which never functioned as such, was repurposed for the Local Police, despite its age and proximity to the R4 railway line, where numerous freight trains pass, causing movements and exacerbating the deficiencies.
The City Council has indicated that a location for the new facilities has already been chosen in the Tancat area, where a structure initially intended for a senior citizens' center is already erected. Two years ago, a technical report was issued validating the structure for police use, but the project's drafting and construction are still pending.
