The Government of the Generalitat has launched a bidding process to find private developers interested in public housing construction. This initiative plans for construction on 59 plots made available by Catalan municipalities, each capable of housing up to 20 homes.
Bidding has been conducted individually for each plot, aiming to find developers best suited to the specific characteristics of each municipality and site. Once a plot receives a proposal, a competition opens for other companies to submit their offers, with the best bid ultimately being awarded.
Proposals have already been received for more than half of the public housing units planned on these small-scale plots. Six developers have offered to build 444 homes across 24 plots in 13 different municipalities.
A one-month period will now open for developers to submit new offers for sites that have received multiple expressions of interest. The final decision will be based on the best proposal submitted.
Two municipal properties in El Vendrell, located at Ramon Llull street numbers 33 and 35, have generated interest from developers. These sites could potentially accommodate the construction of 10 homes each.
These developments will be carried out under a 75-year surface right in favor of the construction company. Once this period concludes, the homes will revert to municipal ownership.
