The mayor of Badalona, Xavier Garcia Albiol, has celebrated the dismissal by the Prosecutor's Office of the complaint filed by the Comuns MEP, Jaume Asens, for alleged hate crime. The complaint referred to the eviction of the former B9 institute on December 17th. Albiol described the dismissal as "the clearest evidence of the political use by the Comuns of people's hardships," accusing them of using "people's hardships and miseries to play politics."
According to the mayor, "the Comuns, and the far-left in Catalonia, try to achieve victories in court when they are unable to win them at the polls." He added that they do not accept his mayorship and that, faced with electoral victories, "they understand that the only way to stop me is through repeated complaints in court," even though judicial decisions "reaffirm that the actions of the Badalona municipal government comply with the law" and that their actions are "in defense of the residents of Badalona."
Xavier Garcia Albiol emphasized that the eviction of the B9 "was an act of defense of the dignity of the residents in the area of this building who had been enduring problems of crime and incivility for three years." Therefore, he has asked the Comuns and Jaume Asens to "publicly apologize" for filing the complaint and for having "insulted and disrespected" him. "What is now appropriate, now that Justice has ruled in my favor, is for them to apologize," he concluded.
