Opposition parties in Badalona (PSC, ERC, Comuns, and Guanyem) denounced this Monday the “fraud” of Mayor Xavier García Albiol’s Cold Operation, which failed to provide dignified shelter to those evicted from the B9.

The controversy surrounding the mass eviction from the former B9 institute in Badalona continues to escalate. The opposition parties —the PSC, ERC, Comuns, and Guanyem— have harshly criticized the Cold Operation launched by the municipal government of Xavier García Albiol this Monday in response to cold weather forecasts. According to a joint statement, the plan announced to accommodate 15 people failed to provide the homeless with beds, mattresses, blankets, or showers.

The plan developed by Albiol is a scam. No dignified emergency accommodation resource has been made available to homeless people.

This situation is significantly worsened following the eviction that left nearly 400 migrants on the street in mid-December. Opposition forces claim that no one has slept in the sports center enabled to cope with the cold, while about fifty people are still sleeping under the C-31 bridge and hundreds are forced to sleep rough.
The parties directly point the finger at the Mayor of Badalona, Xavier García Albiol, whom they accuse of having closed essential services for the homeless during his mandate and of having «renounced to have a social and housing policy that responds to the emergency».
