Badalona residents unclog sewers to prevent flooding after heavy rain

Several residents and merchants in Badalona had to intervene directly on Tuesday afternoon to open clogged storm drains and allow rainwater to drain, preventing widespread flooding.

This citizen intervention occurred in several parts of the city, including Carrer Sagunt, Carrer del Progrés, and Carrer Canonge Baranera. In these areas, the joint action was crucial to prevent water from entering commercial establishments.
The main cause of the localized flooding was the large accumulation of leaves completely obstructing the sewers and storm drains. This situation prevented the normal drainage of water, creating significant puddles within minutes.
According to witnesses, the leaf litter had accumulated on the streets of Badalona since the previous weekend, following an episode of strong winds. Residents have sharply criticized the lack of action by municipal cleaning services, arguing that poor maintenance exacerbated the effects of the rain on Tuesday, December 16.
