The infrastructure company Abertis, owned by Florentino Pérez's construction firm ACS and the Italian company Mundy, has completed the purchase of 49.99% of the shares in the concessionaire of the Vallvidrera Tunnels and the Cadí Tunnels. This stake was previously held by the French company Crédit Agricole Assurances.
With this operation, the company now controls 100% of the concession, having already held 50.01% through its subsidiary Autopistas. The current concession, which the Generalitat extended for 25 years in 2012, is set to expire in 2037.
“"With the purchase, it increases its exposure in Catalonia and strengthens its position in a strategic market like Spain. The operation represents a new milestone in achieving the group's strategy."
The tunnels, totaling 46 kilometers, are a vital infrastructure for connecting Barcelona with municipalities such as Sant Cugat. The concessionaire reported revenues of 69 million euros in 2024. It has been announced that the peak-hour toll for passenger cars will increase by 3% in 2026, reaching 5.26 euros.
It should be noted that Abertis moved its registered office from Catalonia to Madrid in 2017, prior to its acquisition by ACS.
