Aigües de Barcelona invests 5.7 million euros in innovation for water management

The company held the conference 'Innovation for the future of water' to present its digital and sustainable transformation goals.

Aigües de Barcelona allocated 5.7 million euros to innovation in 2025 to drive the transformation of the water cycle, presenting its goals at a conference in Tech Barcelona.

The mixed company Aigües de Barcelona, participated by Veolia, the Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) and Criteria, held the conference “Innovation for the future of water” to detail its actions and objectives. During 2025, the company allocated 5.7 million euros to innovation projects, analyzing over 120 proposals and launching about 60 initiatives.

This work was carried out in collaboration with more than 140 entities, including 35 universities and research centers, 10 startups, and 14 public administrations. The event, held at Tech Barcelona, was attended by nearly 100 people from 40 territorial entities.
The open innovation roundtable included deputy mayors José Carlos García Romero (Sant Joan Despí), Alejandro Pérez (Sant Boi), and Montse Zamora (Esplugues). General Director Ignacio Escudero stressed that innovation and digitalization are “key axes for the transformation of cities”.
