This redundancy plan is part of a global wave of 14,000 layoffs, which the company justifies by the need for a more agile structure. The cuts affect cross-cutting areas, including customer service, translation, commercial, and digital development.

The negotiated terms include severance pay of 38 days per year worked, capped at 24 monthly payments, and a guaranteed minimum compensation of 7,000 euros. Union representative Erik Carrión expressed concern that innovative technology like AI is negatively impacting employment.
Vice President Beth Galetti stated that the measure aims to “achieve an agile and adequate structure, reducing bureaucracy.” Personnel at logistics centers, such as the large warehouse in El Prat, are excluded from these cuts. Despite the layoffs, Amazon, led by Jeff Bezos, saw its net profit soar by 38.2% in the third quarter, reaching 18.213 billion euros.
