The Governing Board of the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) has appointed journalist and scriptwriter Anna Guitart as the institution's new director, a position she will assume on January 8, 2026.

Guitart's appointment comes shortly after she concluded her role as commissioner for the Barcelona program at the recent Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), where the city was the guest of honor. The fair featured 80 Catalan writers and artists from other disciplines, and her successful management of this event was a key factor in her designation.
The Governing Board, which formalized the appointment this Tuesday, was led by the Minister of Culture of the Generalitat, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar. The IRL is a consortium dedicated to the international projection of the Catalan language and culture, comprising the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Barcelona City Council, and the Palma City Council.
Anna Guitart is a well-known figure in the Catalan literary sector, specializing in literature and books. She has a long career in literary journalism, starting at Ràdio Barcelona and working on programs like La República by Joan Barril. She has also worked as a scriptwriter and director for cultural programs such as De què va, El bocamoll, Via Lliure, and Savis (on Canal 33 or TV3), in addition to hosting literary segments like Tot el temps del món.
Guitart replaces political scientist Pere Almeda, whose four-year term ended on November 7. Almeda's main goal during his tenure was the creation of a network of residences, a project that was not completed. The leadership of the IRL, which employs about 70 people, has seen some recent instability, as Almeda took over after the resignation of writer Francesc Serés, who stepped down just four months after assuming the role.
