The drastic temperature decrease has transformed the climate in Barcelona, where the warm weather of recent days has abruptly disappeared. Data from the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya confirms this thermal shock that has affected the thermometer on the roof of the Catalan capital.
Last Saturday, April 11, the city recorded a maximum of 26.8 ºC, an unusually high value for early April. However, just 24 hours later, on Sunday, the maximum was 17.2 ºC, showing a decrease of almost 10 ºC when comparing the highest values of each day.
Comparing temperatures in the same time slots reveals an even more surprising difference. While on Saturday, between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM, 26.8 ºC were recorded, on Sunday, in the same interval, the temperature was 13.8 ºC, representing an exact drop of 13 ºC.
We have gone from June to February in 24 hours.
This radical change comes shortly after the Fabra Observatory recorded the warmest April night since 1914. Despite the sharp decline, this thermal setback is expected to be ephemeral, with a gradual recovery of temperatures starting mid-week. Meteorological models suggest that temperatures could return to being warmer than usual for the season, both in Barcelona and the surrounding metropolitan area.
