During these festive days, residents and visitors to Barcelona have various options to enjoy themselves without leaving the city. Among the most notable proposals are the recently re-inaugurated Sala Phenomena, which has upgraded its sound and image systems, as well as the opportunity to attend concerts at the Mas i Mas Festival in Sala Jamboree. One can also enjoy the gastronomic and beer offerings of the Biergarten or explore a large second-hand clothing market at the Estació del Nord.
Sala Phenomena, recognized as the best cinema in Europe six months ago at the Venice Film Festival, has reopened its doors after a comprehensive renovation. Improvements include new seats, screens, projectors, and an advanced sound system. This weekend, film enthusiasts can enjoy classics such as The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Interstellar, and Proyecto Salvación at its location on Sant Antoni Maria Claret 168 street.
The 23rd edition of the Mas i Mas Festival has begun, offering an extensive program of jazz and fused genres such as funk, soul, and hip-hop until September 6. With over forty concerts in six different venues, this first weekend's program focuses on the iconic Sala Jamboree. American saxophonist JT4, a former member of Jazz Messenger & Art Blakey, performs in a double session, while Sunday will feature Philip Lassitier with his funk and soul proposal.
The Poble Espanyol hosts a new edition of the Biergarten, its seventeenth, in its Plaça Major. Until Easter Monday, attendees can sample over 20 varieties of beer accompanied by German gastronomic specialties such as frankfurters and bratwurst. The event offers activities such as workshops to learn how to pour beer, stein-lifting contests, and menu options with prior reservation. Access is free, but reservations are required for tables or menus.
Finally, the Estació del Nord will be the setting for the Gran Flea Market this Sunday, a second-hand market with over 120 stalls. Vintage clothing lovers and second-hand item enthusiasts can find everything from technical apparel to emerging designer pieces. The event, which will take place from 11 am to 7 pm, will also include food stalls, DJ's, and games for the little ones. Tickets can be purchased online for 2 euros or at the box office for 4 euros.
