This measure, unanimously approved in the April plenary session, raises the total number of protected trees in the city to 218. The initiative, promoted by the Cataloguing Commission, which includes the Parks and Gardens service, citizens, and entities, seeks to preserve the most valuable plant heritage of the Catalan capital.
Among the new members of the catalogue are an Araucaria bidwillii in the Can Borni gardens, in the Horta-Guinardó district; a Celtis australis on Piferrer street in Nou Barris; and an Eucalyptus globulis on Labèrnia street, also in Horta-Guinardó.
The list is completed with a Populus nigra located at the Font de Can Llevallol, in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district, and a Tilia platyphyllos at the entrance to the Masia de Can Masdéu, in Nou Barris. These trees cannot be felled and will receive specific care to ensure their good condition.
The main criteria for inclusion in this catalogue include the species, uniqueness, morphological and aesthetic qualities, historical value, age, and size of the specimen.
