The Socialist Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, announced the creation of an unprecedented fair dedicated to affordable housing as a direct response to the controversial real estate congress The District moving to Madrid.

The decision by the real estate exhibition The District to move its headquarters from Barcelona to Madrid has prompted an immediate response from the Municipal Government. Mayor Jaume Collboni confirmed in an interview that the Catalan capital will host a new event focused exclusively on promoting social and reasonably priced housing.

"There is no fair of these characteristics in the State, and therefore, we will address this proposal, because it seems like a good way to signify the economy in a purpose that we defend."

Collboni downplayed the loss of The District, which had been a source of controversy in the city, stating that the departure is part of the 'dynamics of trade shows.' However, he emphasized that the City Council's response is to meet the demands of developers to create a space addressing the main citizen concern, according to the latest municipal barometer: the housing crisis.
The PSC mayor highlighted that the construction and real estate management sector is an 'economic sector that is rising in an extraordinary way.' In this regard, he promised 'strong investment' by the public sector over the next 10 to 15 years, focused on promoting social and affordable housing for the citizens of Barcelona.
