The Barcelona writer Blanca Busquets Oliu, born on March 20, 1961, has just published her fourteenth novel, Habitacions compartides, solidifying her style focused on short-distance emotional exploration and psychological monologue.

Busquets' career formally began with the help of literary agent Anna Soler-Pont. Her first published book was Presó de neu (Proa, 2003), a work that arose from her experience as a volunteer at the Can Brians penitentiary center. The author defines her style as a "psychological novel based on monologues," focusing on the exploration of feelings.

"The best anecdote is from Russia: my first translation was of the book 'El jersei' into Russian. It has been re-edited there, and now, the Kremlin has prohibited several writers who can only be read or bought clandestinely. Among these writers are Jaume Cabré, Haruki Murakami, and myself. They consider us 'foreign agents' of who knows what."

Regarding her creative process, Busquets explains that she writes "a raig" (in a rush/stream) once she has a clear idea, without following a rigid schedule, a practice she has maintained since she was 12 years old. Although she is capable of writing with ambient noise and people talking, she has one specific habit: she cannot work if music is playing. Her classic references include Oscar Wilde, Federico García Lorca, and Albert Camus, while among contemporaries she highlights Irène Némirovsky and Siegfried Lenz.

"There are two: 1. when I held the first published book in my hands, and 2. when I won the Llibreter Prize (2011)."

Additionally, Busquets recently published Collsacabra [una biografia] (October 2025), which she describes as "a love story with my land."
