Carte Urbex helps urban exploration and photography enthusiasts find abandoned places near home or while traveling: castles, sanatoriums, factories, or ghost towns. Its database, built on-site and verified by an active community, caters to both beginner and experienced explorers.

The largest French-language urbex database

Created in 2020, Carte Urbex now references over 200,000 urban exploration sites, spread across more than 200 digital maps. Each map is provided in KML format, compatible with Google Maps, Google Earth, and Maps.me, on both computer and mobile. Access is immediate after purchase, and the catalog ranges from a single department map to an entire country.

A database built on the ground

Unlike simple directories compiled from the internet, Carte Urbex relies on the on-site experience of its founders, who themselves explore emblematic sites such as the Chernobyl zone, the Baikonur cosmodrome, or the abandoned metro of Yerevan. The maps are updated every three months. Demolished, renovated, or inaccessible sites are removed, and explorers who report a verified change receive a free coordinate. In five years, over 3,500 exchanges with the community have been managed.

Sites in Catalonia and throughout Spain

Catalonia has an exceptional heritage of abandoned industrial and architectural sites: old textile colonies along rivers, factories, uninhabited farmhouses, railway buildings, and military installations. Carte Urbex offers sites throughout the territory, from Barcelona to the Catalan Pyrenees, integrated into its urbex map of Spain. For Catalan explorers, it is also a gateway to neighboring sites in southern France, particularly in Northern Catalonia and Occitania.

Responsible exploration

Carte Urbex advocates for a practice that is respectful of the sites: do not damage anything, do not take anything, respect private property, and prioritize safety. The website does not encourage entering private property without authorization under any circumstances. Its goal is to raise awareness and preserve the memory of often-forgotten heritage.

All maps are available on Carte Urbex, with maps by department, by region, and by country, as well as guides dedicated to abandoned sites in France and around the world.
