Collection of cakes inspired by the Tour de France jerseys

Three renowned Catalan pastry chefs, including David Gil from Llívia, have created a collection of cakes inspired by the Tour de France jerseys, presented in Barcelona for the Grand Départ 2026.

Pastry chef David Gil from Llívia has joined his Catalan colleagues Lluc Crusellas, from El Carme pastry shop in Vic, and Ivan Prats, from Dolços Alemany in Amposta, to create an original collection of cakes. These sweet creations are inspired by the iconic jerseys of the French cycling race, in anticipation of the Grand Départ 2026.
The official presentation of the cakes took place last Tuesday, April 14, at an event organized by the Barcelona City Council. The event was held at the facilities of the Club de Tenis Barcelona, coinciding with the celebration of the Open Banc Sabadell 2026, highlighting the Catalan capital as the starting point for the major cycling event.
The initiative, commissioned by the Barcelona Pastry Guild at the request of the City Council, was offered to the three pastry chefs as representatives of the three territories through which the Tour will pass: the regions of Tarragona, Barcelona, and Girona. Furthermore, the involved artisans are known for their passion for cycling.

"As soon as the project reached me, I said yes, because this project excites me a lot. And well, we immediately started working, and the result has been the idea of making four cakes that symbolize the four Tour jerseys."

The main objective of this action is, in addition to promoting the cycling event in Catalonia, to highlight the commercial and gastronomic fabric of the country within the framework of an internationally projected sporting event. Gil expressed his enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing his passion for cycling and the trajectory of his workshop, which has received the Fava del Pirineu award for the sixth consecutive time.
The cakes replicate the colors of the jerseys: the yellow one, with a lemon interior; the white one with red polka dots, made of cream with strawberries; the green one, of pistachio; and an additional white proposal, of honey and mató cheese. These sweets will be sold in a joint package, inside a special Tour box, and will be available in pastry shops across Catalonia that choose to offer them to their customers.
